Sprinter Van, School Bus or Coach? How to Choose the Right Bus Size for Your Group

One of the most common questions we get is also one of the most useful to get right: what size bus do you actually need? Book too small and people are squeezed in or left behind; book too big and you are paying for empty seats. Here is a straightforward way to match the vehicle to your group and your trip.

Start with your headcount

Count everyone who is travelling, including chaperones, organisers and anyone joining partway. It is better to round up slightly so the group is comfortable, especially on longer trips where people want a bit of room. Once you have a number, the choice gets a lot simpler.

The options, by size

  • 14-passenger sprinter van. Ideal for small groups, executive transfers, airport runs and VIP wedding parties. Easy to manoeuvre and the most economical for small numbers.
  • 35-passenger coach. A flexible middle option for mid-sized groups that still want coach comfort, such as clubs, smaller corporate teams and tour groups.
  • 44 to 48 passenger school bus. The practical, budget-friendly choice for school field trips and shorter local outings with larger groups.
  • 56-passenger premium coach. Best for big groups and longer trips, with air conditioning, reclining seats and luggage space for genuine comfort over distance.

Match the vehicle to the trip, not just the count

Capacity is only half the decision. Think about distance and comfort too. A 30-minute shuttle across town is fine on a school bus, but a day trip to Niagara or an out-of-town tour calls for a coach with proper seating, climate control and storage. For weddings and corporate work, the look and comfort of a premium coach can matter as much as the seat count.

When to consider more than one vehicle

If your group is larger than a single coach holds, or if people are departing from different locations, running two or more vehicles often works better than cramming everyone onto one. We can coordinate multiple buses so they travel and arrive together, which is common for large weddings, full-grade school trips and big corporate events.
